Granada gain promotion back to La Liga

After beating Leganés on Saturday, Granada sealed automatic promotion back to La Liga, and confirmed their first-place finish in Spain’s Segunda División. Granada finished the season on 75 points and suffered 11 losses in the campaign, which is only one less loss than SD Huesca had, and they finished 15th. It was a very competitive race for promotion in the Segunda División, with just four points separating first and fifth.

The result against Leganés means that Granada have instantly bounced back, following their relegation from La Liga last year. Last season the Andalusian outfit were in a cruel relegation battle, from which they came out unlucky. They finished on 38 points and Getafe, who ended up in 15th, finished on 39 points.

Granada will be hoping for a consistent run in Spain’s top division, having been a yo-yo club over the last decade. Since 2013, Granada have spent seven seasons in La Liga, and three in the second tier. They will be relying on their Albanian striker Myrto Uzuni next season. Uzuni scored 23 goals this season and was far and away the top goalscorer, with the second top scorer only managing five goals. If Granada are to achieve safety next season, Uzuni will be vital.
