The powers that be at Girona are ready to test the waters regarding a new deal for a member of the defensive ranks at La Liga rivals Barcelona next month.
That’s according to Diario AS, citing Relevo, who point towards Eric García as the player in question.
Eric has for his part of course found game-time altogether difficult to come by in Catalunya’s capital over the course of recent weeks.
Despite having fully recovered from a niggling groin injury, the former Manchester City man has been afforded just a solitary start since early-October.
As much comes amid an intense battle for places in both Barcelona’s backline, and at the base of Hansi Flick’s midfield.
With Jonathan Tah’s signing being lined up for next season, too, Eric is therefore considered as increasingly surplus to requirements by those behind the scenes at the Camp Nou.
And, if the latest word stemming from the media this weekend is anything to go by, then Girona appear ready to take advantage of this situation as early as January.
As per AS:
‘According to Relevo, Girona will try to bring the centre-back in this winter transfer window.’
Eric of course spent last season plying his trade in Blanquivermells colours, a hugely productive spell for club and player alike.
It now remains to be seen if Hansi Flick and co. are ready to sanction a similar agreement mid-season.
