Girona trio to miss top of the table showdown with Real Madrid through suspension

Girona have this evening been dealt a series of heavy personnel blows, in anticipation of the club’s upcoming title showdown with Real Madrid.

This comes owing to developments in their La Liga meeting with Real Sociedad.

Michel’s troops marked their return to action a short time ago, welcoming Sociedad to the Estadi Montilivi in the knowledge that a victory would see them climb back to the summit of the Spanish top-flight.

When all was said and done in a testy affair, however, the evening’s hosts were forced to make do with a point.

This means that, ahead of Sunday’s Madrid Derby, Girona trail table-topping Real by a point, whilst having played a game more.

Should Los Blancos get the better of Atlético, then Girona will fall a full four points behind, therefore aware that they simply cannot afford a defeat when they make the trip to the Santiago Bernabéu next weekend.

The Blanquivermells’ efforts to emerge from Spain’s capital with at least a share of the spoils, however, will be hampered in a major way, by the absence of no fewer than three key figures.

The trio in question? Michel, Yangel Herrera, and Daley Blind.

Headmaster Michel was shown a straight red card on Saturday, whilst both Herrera and Blind picked up their fifth yellow cards of the season.

All three, as a result, will be suspended for next Saturday’s top of the table clash.
