Girona star undergoes surgery ahead of Real Sociedad clash

Girona star Portu was on Monday forced under the knife, to repair an ankle problem.

As much was announced by the Catalans themselves a short time ago.

Attacker Portu, for his part, was forced to sit out last time out, as Girona put Athletic Club to the sword in a La Liga clash at the Estadi Montilivi.

This came owing to an ongoing ankle concern, which it was initially hoped would heal over the course of the international break.

As alluded to above, however, this has since not proven to be the case.

Instead, on the advice of the Girona medical staff, Portu on Monday underwent corrective surgery on his right ankle.

As per a statement across the social media platforms of the Catalan club:

‘Cristian Portugués has been operated on due to discomfort in his right ankle. The intervention was carried out by Dr. Ramón Cugat. His progress will mark the player’s return to training with the team.’

Portu joins all of Daley Blind, Oriol Romeu and Viktor Tsygankov in being ruled out of Girona’s post-international break return to action against Real Sociedad this weekend.
