Girona star pens contract extension through 2026

A headline member of the defensive ranks at La Liga outfit Girona has on Wednesday committed his immediate future to the club.

The player in question? Daley Blind.

Stopper Blind has of course played a pivotal role in the historic campaign being enjoyed by Girona in 2023/24.

All told, the Dutch international has featured from the off in 31 of the Blanquivermells’ La Liga outings, chipping in with a goal and two assists along the way.

Ahead of the expiration of his contract terms in just over a year’s time, the brass at the Estadi Montilivi, in turn, recently moved to tie Blind down to a new deal.

And, on Wednesday, such efforts have officially borne fruit.

As per a release across Girona’s website and social media platforms this evening, the 34-year-old has put pen to paper on an extension with the Catalans through the summer of 2026:

‘Girona FC and Daley Blind have reached an agreement to extend the Dutch defender’s contract for one more season, until June 2026. With 33 appearances this season, Blind has been a fundamental part of the team to which he has contributed his experience, quality and versatility on the pitch. A fixture in the centre of defence, he is the fifth most used player by Míchel Sánchez in league matches, behind Gazzaniga, Aleix Garcia, Miguel and Sávio. He has also demonstrated his goalscoring prowess, with three goals this season.

‘With the extension of Daley Blind’s contract, Girona FC guarantees the continuity of a versatile player who, at 34 years of age, has extensive experience at some of the most prestigious clubs on the continent, such as Ajax, Manchester United and Bayern Munich.’
