Girona expecting Barcelona midfielder offer in the summer

The powers that be at Girona are expecting to be on the receiving end of a summer offer from La Liga rivals Barcelona, for a key member of the club’s midfield setup.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have on Monday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Catalunya.

The player to have made his way into the sights of the Barcelona brass with a view to next season comes in the form of Aleix García.

Midfielder García was previously hotly tipped to link up with Xavi’s Barca during the January transfer window, albeit with a move, in the end, having failed to come to fruition.

The Blaugrana, though, remain keen admirers of the talents boasted by the 26-year-old, viewing him as the ideal addition to their engine room ranks.

As per the aforementioned MD, Girona are therefore bracing themselves for an imminent assault on García’s signature, by way of their Catalan neighbours.

Barca, it is reiterated, are ‘serious’ about a deal for the Spanish international, having ‘already communicated’ as much to García’s entourage and their Girona counterparts alike.

The expectation at the latter, though, is that the initial proposal for their midfield star’s signature will come in some way short of the €20 million release clause included in his contract at the Estadi Montilivi.

It now remains to be seen whether such a bid would be enough to entice the Blanquivermells into the sale of such a key player, ahead of what is expected to be the club’s first season in the Champions League in 2024/25.
