Girona boss Michel speaks out on January transfer plans

Girona head coach Michel has this evening provided an insight into his hopes for the January transfer window.

Girona, of course, have emerged as the headline talking point of the season to date in Spain, amid a shock challenge for the La Liga title.

As things stand with 19 games on the board, the Blanquivermells sit joint-top of the table, adrift of Real Madrid owing only to goal difference.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of an impending meeting with Almería this weekend, the subject of potential reinforcements to aid his side’s pursuit of unlikely glory was in turn put to Girona boss Michel.

The Spanish tactician, though, was keen to keep his cards relatively close to his chest.

Adamant that any arrivals must improve the overall quality of his squad, Michel did admit that fresh blood could be forthcoming in midfield, owing to the expected departure of Ibrahima Kébé:

“As long as the club makes steps forward, it will be good,” he began.

“Right now there is the possible departure of Ibra Kébé, so we would need a player in that position.

“if someone comes, it should be to improve the squad. I just want to work in the same way, I don’t ask for more.”
