La Liga outfit Girona have on Monday announced an injury blow in the club’s midfield ranks.
The player to have picked up a fitness problem? Yangel Herrera.
Venezuelan international Herrera was afforded his latest starting berth on Sunday, as Girona made the trip to Andalusia, for a La Liga meeting with Sevilla.
With just 45 minutes on the clock, however, the 26-year-old was hooked from proceedings, replaced by Jhon Solís.
Speaking to the media post-match, Blanquivermells boss Míchel was quick to assure that Yangel’s withdrawal did not come owing to an injury, but rather fatigue.
24 hours on, however, it has been confirmed that the midfielder, indeed, has picked up a fitness problem.
As per a statement across Girona’s website and social media platforms:
‘Yangel Herrera suffers an injury to the left adductor and has not joined the squad with his national team.’
The extent of Yangel’s incoming spell on the sidelines, meanwhile, is labelled as ‘pending tests’.
Míchel’s troops will mark their return to action on the back of the international break on September 15th, in a La Liga showdown with table-topping Catalan neighbours Barcelona.
