Girona announce concerning double injury blow

La Liga outfit Girona have on Tuesday announced a double personnel blow in the club’s first-team squad.

This comes owing to developments in the club’s weekend meeting with Celta Vigo.

Míchel’s troops marked their return to action this past Sunday, making the trip to Balaídos for a league meeting with the aforementioned Celta.

When all was said and done, the two sides shared the spoils, Yangel Herrera’s first-half opener cancelled out by Iago Aspas late on.

As alluded to above, though, their eventual dropped points represented far from Girona’s only source of concern on the back of the full-time whistle in Galicia.

Over the course of the 90 minutes on Sunday, two key members of Míchel’s squad – in Oriol Romeu and Daley Blind – were forced into premature departures from the action.

And, following a round of medical tests, the extent of the respective injuries picked up by the pair has on Tuesday been confirmed.

As per a statement across Girona’s social media platforms:

‘Oriol Romeu: has an injury to the femoral biceps tendon of his right leg. Approximate leave time: 8 weeks.’

‘Daley Blind: He has an injury to the calf of his left leg. Approximate downtime: 4 weeks.’
