German national team head coach Julian Nagelsmann has on Friday provided an update on the wellbeing of star defender Antonio Rüdiger.
This comes after the Real Madrid stalwart set pulses racing across his home country last weekend.
Speaking in the aftermath of his side’s 1-1 Euro 2024 group stage stalemate with Switzerland, the aforementioned Nagelsmann revealed that Rüdiger had picked up a thigh injury:
“He has a bit of a problem with his thigh. We’ll have to see what happens. I hope it’s nothing serious. We’ll see. That could be quite problematic.”
The days since have seen the 31-year-old sit out Die Mannschaft training, as his compatriots prepare for a Last-16 showdown with Denmark this weekend.
During his pre-match press conference on Friday evening, it therefore came as little surprise when the name of stopper Rüdiger was put to his manager once more.
And Nagelsmann’s response proved a hugely positive one, amid confirmation that, barring any setbacks, the Real Madrid man will be available to feature from the off on Saturday night:
“He is very important. Today’s training went very well. We have to wait until tomorrow. If nothing special happens, then he can play tomorrow.”
