Gavi, Gündoğan and the 3 reasons Barcelona want to sign Aleix García

A fresh insight into the transfer links between La Liga giants Barcelona, and Girona midfielder Aleix García, has been provided this evening.

The info comes courtesy of Mundo Deportivo, who have revealed precisely why the Spaniard has been identified as a leading target on the part of the powers that be in Catalunya’s capital.

García’s name, of course, has returned to the forefront of the headlines at Barcelona over the course of the last 24 hours.

This comes after Blaugrana sporting director Deco all but confirmed the club’s interest in his signature.

“Gavi’s loss is something that was difficult to contrast during the winter market. Depending on how we end the season, we will evaluate Aleix García. He is a good player,” Deco announced, during an interview with Jijantes.

So, what exactly is it about García that has sparked such strong interest amongst those behind the scenes at Barca?

As per the aforementioned MD, the Catalans’ eagerness to bring in the 26-year-old this summer comes for three leading reasons:

Gavi’s likely lengthy injury recovery, caution with over-playing an injury-prone Pedri, and İlkay Gündoğan’s age (33).

Viewed as capable of filling in for any of the three, García has in turn worked his way to the top of the summer transfer wishlist of Deco and his team.
