García or Onana? Barcelona coaches & technical staff disagree on January midfield target

Tension is brewing between two key departments at Barcelona, over the club’s plans for the January transfer window.

That’s according to Diario AS, who have today provided an insight into the latest developments in Catalunya’s capital.

It is of course common knowledge that Xavi and co. are on the lookout for reinforcements in the middle of the park, with a view to the 2nd half of the campaign.

This comes amid the long-term injury suffered by Gavi, Pedri’s ongoing fitness struggles, and the dip in form being endured by Oriol Romeu.

A whole host of engine room stars, in turn, have been tipped as potential arrivals in Barcelona across the month to date.

Two such names come in the form of Aleix García, and Amadou Onana.

García, for his part, is currently in the midst of a stellar campaign with surprise La Liga title challengers Girona, whilst Onana has long been drawing admiring glances from across the continent owing to his standout displays in the Premier League with Everton.

And it is such endeavours on the part of the pair which now appear to have caused something of a rift behind the scenes in Barcelona.

As per the aforementioned AS, Xavi and his coaching staff view García as the ideal profile to bolster the Blaugrana’s midfield ranks.

The technical staff at the club, however, feel that the physical tools possessed by Onana, as well as his age (22), make the Belgian a preferred target.

Talks, as a result, will continue in the Barca boardroom over the weeks to come, albeit with it currently unclear just who will win out as the club’s priority winter target.
