FC Barcelona have told Frenkie de Jong (25) that they need him to leave in the summer transfer window, according to Catalan outlet Mundo Deportivo.
The Dutch player has an offer from Manchester United but for now, he is adamant that he will not leave Camp Nou.
Barça and United have an agreement in principle for the transfer of the midfielder for a fixed price of €75 million plus add-ons, which could reach €85 million.
The offer satisfies the Catalan club because of what it implies in terms of revenue and also because of what it would save in terms of wages if De Jong leaves.
It is estimated that his departure would generate between €30 and 35 million which would enable Barça to register other players, those who have arrived as new signings and others who have renewed or have to renew.
With United putting pressure on the club and the player, Barça have officially told De Jong today that they would prefer him to leave for Old Trafford.
