A fresh insight into the wellbeing of Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has come to the fore on Monday.
Midfielder De Jong, of course, set alarm bells ringing across Catalunya’s capital once more late last night.
En route to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of arch rivals Real Madrid, the Dutchman lasted just 45 minutes.
This came after a full-blooded challenge between he and Real counterpart Federico Valverde saw the former come out much the worse.
After being seen to by the visitors’ medical team, De Jong, in turn, was stretchered from the field of play at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Barcelona, in an official statement released on Monday, have confirmed that a round of medical tests revealed a ‘right ankle sprain’ for their engine room conductor.
So, just how long is De Jong likely to be sidelined for?
As per an ensuing update on the part of Diario Sport’s Toni Juanmartí, the former Ajax standout will be unavailable for the next five weeks, meaning his season, for all intents and purposes, is over.
And, if photos of the challenge between De Jong and Valverde to have come to the fore online in the hours since are anything to go by, it is not difficult to see why…
