Frenkie de Jong provides fresh update on Barcelona future

A headline member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has on Sunday spoken out regarding his future once more.

The player in question? Frenkie de Jong.

The name of midfielder De Jong has of course maintained its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital heading into the summer.

As much comes amid long-standing claims that, owing to the ongoing financial problems at Barcelona, the Dutch international could be sacrificed with a view to next season.

Though De Jong remains a pivotal member of the club’s engine room ranks, he is considered one of the more attractive sale options, due to the widespread interest in his signature and, in turn, significant transfer value.

Recent days have seen it suggested that incoming head coach Hansi Flick would be in favour of keeping hold of the 26-year-old, though, a firm believer in De Jong’s talents.

Speaking to the media this weekend, the subject of as much, in turn, was put to FdJ himself.

And, during an exchange with Dutch outlet NOS, the former Ajax standout assured that, after speaking with new boss Flick, he remains ‘happy’ at Barcelona:

“Staying at Barça? Yes, I’m very happy in Barcelona with my family, for sure. Hansi Flick wants me to be key? I spoke to him, it was good. After the Euros we will see how things are with him.”
