An update on the future of Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has on Monday come to the fore online.
And the news is of an altogether positive nature for those hopeful of seeing the Dutch international stay put for the long-term.
Midfielder De Jong is of course fresh off a starring display on Sunday night, which saw the former Ajax man open the scoring en route to a 7-1 Barcelona drubbing of Valencia.
It was noted by many viewers that De Jong looked something of a player reborn, free of stress and the long-term fitness problems which for so long weighed him down.
And this could well be attributed in no small part to the fact that the 27-year-old, at last, appears to have come to a decision on his future.
De Jong has long had a contract renewal offer on the table at the Camp Nou, but had until now refused to commit to as much.
As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, though, buoyed by his restored confidence and prominent place in the plans of boss Hansi Flick:
‘Frenkie is now interested in renewing his current contract with the Blaugrana club, which ends on June 30, 2026. This is what the Dutch international has said in the dressing room.’
Though a renewal is by no means a certainty, with Deco and the Barca brass still keen to reduce De Jong’s considerable wages, this development is viewed as a considerable step towards common ground being found between the parties.
