Four players Barcelona could sell this summer

Barcelona want to spend big this summer and in order to do that, they would need to sell some of their current squad members. Four players Barça could sell this summer are Arturo Vidal, Ivan Rakitic, Samuel Umtiti and Philippe Coutinho, in order for the club to be able to increase their budget to bring in new, younger talent.

1. Arturo Vidal

One player who is most likely going to leave Barcelona is Arturo Vidal. Vidal was on the verge of leaving in January when Inter had begun talks with Barcelona over the player. However, the deal never advanced and the Italian side started to focus on Christian Eriksen instead. Inter will most likely try to acquire the Chilean this summer. Italian media outlets claim that there’s the possibility of Vidal going into the Lautaro Martínez deal. Inter head coach Antonio Conte is a huge fan of Vidal.

2. Ivan Rakitic

Another player who Barcelona will try to sell this summer is Ivan Rakitic. He has been at the club since the 2014-15 season, and it seems like his fairytale at Barcelona could be coming to an end with just 10 starts this season. His current contract runs until 2021 but the player is open to hearing new offers. Last summer, Juventus had made a late enquiry for Rakitic and were seriously interested. However, Juventus wanted players to be in the deal but Barça only wanted money. In January, Juventus yet again made an enquiry for the 32-year-old. This time, they wanted Federico Bernardeschi to be part of the deal, Barcelona weren’t interested. Atlético Madrid have also shown interest and could potentially also make a bid this summer.

3. Samuel Umtiti

Barcelona want a defender this summer and they’re ready to offload Samuel Umtiti after the constant injuries the defender has gone through. At 26, Umtiti is entering his peak. Barça know that his price tag will be high and they can cash in on the French international. Manchester United have previously shown interest and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them make a bid for him this summer. Other reports suggest he could be part of the deal which would bring Neymar back to Barcelona from Paris Saint-Germain.

4. Philippe Coutinho

Barcelona bought Coutinho from Liverpool in 2018, but the player lacked motivation on the pitch. The club eventually decided to send him on loan to Bayern Munich. Last summer, Barcelona were very keen on adding him into the Neymar deal, but the Brazilian refused and had instead accepted Bayern’s offer. The German side will make their final decision on Coutinho very soon – whether they will buy him permanently or not. The most probable outcome would be Bayern not activating the buy-out clause which will bring Coutinho back to Barcelona. The Catalan club will be looking to sell him this summer and they may also try to add him into the Neymar deal. As of now, no club has shown serious interest in the flair attacker but things could change in the summer.
