Ex-La Liga referee Mateu Lahoz has revealed his take that Real Madrid star Eduardo Camavinga deserved to be sent off during the club’s weekend meeting with Barcelona.
Midfielder Camavinga, for his part, featured from the off on Sunday, in the finale of the Spanish Super Cup.
En route to a 5-2 drubbing, however, the 22-year-old endured an altogether difficult time of things.
The lowlight of his performance came with the scoreline locked at a goal apiece during the first-half, when Camavinga was responsible for an awful challenge in the penalty area.
Following a VAR check, a spot-kick was awarded, with Robert Lewandowski having slotted home his ensuing effort with minimal fuss.
And yet, later in proceedings, things could have gotten a whole lot worse for Camavinga.
As much came owing to another poor challenge, which many were adamant should have given rise to a 2nd yellow card.
The incident was ultimately overlooked owing to Barcelona’s dominance, but one individual in no two minds that Camavinga should indeed have been sent for an early bath is the aforementioned Mateu Lahoz.
Speaking during an appearance on Movistar this week, former referee chief Lahoz explained:
“I can understand the decision not to send off Vinicius because the interference may not have been intentional, but Camavinga clearly deserved to be sent off.”
