Former Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz has passed away in hospital in Madrid at the age of 76, due to coronavirus.
The Spaniard had been hospitalised for a number of days after developing a fever, and the subsequent test for COVID-19 provided a positive result.
Born in Madrid in 1943, he held the position of club president at the Santiago Bernabéu from 1995-2000. He will be remembered for winning the Champions League title in two of his last three seasons at the helm – beating Juventus and Valencia in the 1998 and 2000 deciders.
Sanz is the father-in-law of former Real Madrid and Spanish defender Míchel Salgado, who married his daughter Malula.
