Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane emerges as shock candidate for Bayern Munich job

As reported by Florian Plettenberg, former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is now under consideration for the Bayern Munich job.

The German club are likely to continue with Thomas Tuchel until the end of the season, but are now assessing other managerial candidates, due to the inconsistent results the club have produced this season. This process is taking place in the background and it is understood that the club are creating a shortlist of targets.

At the top of this list is Zidane, who is one of the most prominent candidates that has been discussed internally. Although there is nothing concrete at this stage, the board members at Bayern appreciate the Frenchman’s experience and are huge admirers of his work at Madrid.

The 51-year-old would be available to join the club immediately and this could happen if Tuchel is unable to resurrect the club’s form in the next few weeks. However, there is more chance of Zidane joining in the summer.

After retiring as a Los Blancos legend, Zidane began his coaching career at Real Madrid Castilla where he remained in this position for two years. Furthermore, he was then appointed as the first-team coach in 2016 and in his first two and half seasons, he became the first coach to win the Champions League three times in a row.

During this period, he also won the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup twice each, a La Liga title and a Supercopa de España. Due to his success, Zidane was named the Best FIFA Men’s Coach in 2017, but just one year later he resigned as first team manager.

However, he returned to the club in 2019, winning another La Liga and Supercopa de España title, before leaving again in 2021.
