Former Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui agrees to Premier League return

Former Real Madrid and Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui has agreed terms to become West Ham’s manager at the end of the season, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Lopetegui has been searching for a new club after leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers last year. The Spaniard took over Wolves last season when they were bottom of the league and guided them to a 13th placed finish.

However, the 57-year-old head coach fell out with the owners over issues with the sporting project. Lopetegui became frustrated with the club’s lack of movement in the transfer market and left just three days before the start of the season.

Although no contracts have been signed, Lopetegui is close to making his return to management. Current Hammers managers David Moyes has come under criticism in recent weeks due to poor form, which has seen his side exit the Europa League and fall out of the race for the European spots in the league.

Lopetegui has had a very successful career managing the likes of Madrid and the Spain National team. He won the Europa League title with Sevilla in 2020 before moving to the Premier League two years later.
