Former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has confirmed that he was previously contacted by the club, over the possibility of a reunion.
Spanish tactician Enrique is of course currently plying his managerial trade in France, with Paris Saint-Germain.
Prior to as much, though, the most successful stretch of his career on the touchline came whilst in charge of the aforementioned Barcelona.
Across a three-year stint with the Blaugrana between 2014 and 2017, Enrique racked up two league titles, three Copa del Reys, and a Champions League.
In turn, it should perhaps not come as a major surprise to hear that, whilst struggling back in the 2022/23 campaign, the Camp Nou brass touched base with their ex-headmaster over a potential return.
Enrique himself confirmed as much during the filming of his new documentary, for Movistar:
“Barça called me during the 2022/2023 season. But then I asked them, ‘If Xavi wins La Liga and the Copa del Rey, would you still change him?’ And they didn’t even reply. If I had waited, clearly I would have options of managing them now.”
