Former Barcelona loanee ready to reduce salary to secure Camp Nou return

A former member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona is ready to do his part from a financial standpoint, to ensure a summer return to the club.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards João Cancelo as the player in question.

Full-back Cancelo of course spent this past season on loan in Catalunya’s capital, from Manchester City.

Despite a series of high-profile errors late in the campaign, the understanding is that those in the boardroom at the Camp Nou were more than happy with the contributions offered by the Portuguese over the course of the campaign.

And as much, when all is said and done, looks likely to prove enough to secure for Cancelo a move back to Barcelona.

As per Sport, all of the Blaugrana brass, head coach Hansi Flick and the player himself want the same thing – a reunion for 2024/25.

Cancelo has even gone as far as to offer to slash his wages to ensure as much.

Deco and his team of directors have therefore begun speeding up the operation to bring the versatile defender back, ‘for a season-long loan with an obligatory purchase option if certain requirements are met’.

Manchester City, left with little choice in the matter owing to the 30-year-old’s unwillingness to move anywhere else, are in turn expected to sanction the transfer in short order.
