Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez spoke to El Larguero after Karim Benzema was named the winner of the 2022 Ballon d’Or on Monday.
What makes Benzema so good?
“He’s a nine, a combination of Ronaldo and Zidane, he does both jobs at the same time. He moves forward like Zidane did and shoots like Ronaldo Nazario did.”
Four Ballon d’Ors
“There was Figo, there was Zidane, there was Ronaldo and there was Benzema. It’s four Ballon d’Ors.”
“Courtois is the best goalkeeper in the world and maybe we have to be patient because he could be one in the future [Ballon d’Or winner].”
“There’s so much left [of the season], it’s not a decisive match. It’s always better to win than to lose. A Clásico is a Clásico, it’s watched by a lot of people and has a lot of prestige.”
Does the Mbappé issue bore you?
“It’s not that it bores me, it’s that I don’t even read about it. We had a good summer, it’s no longer relevant. It doesn’t make any sense now. Now the players are progressing spectacularly up front. Rodrygo and Vinicius are two excellent players.”
Manchester City named the best team
“Well, we congratulate them, they have a great president, a great coach and good players. It’s a great club.”
