La Masia graduate Fermín López announces himself to the world

La Masia has produced top talents for decades, and it looks like Barcelona might have done it again with Fermín López. Players like Xavi, Andres Iniesta, and of course, Lionel Messi are just some of the names who have come through Barcelona’s famous academy. Barcelona set up La Masia, meaning ‘The Farmhouse’ in 1979, and the academy has gone on to be the leading school for young talent anywhere in the world.

Many players from Barça’s youth set-up have gone on to create history with the club, and establish themselves as legends of the game, whilst others have progressed onto pastures new, but the academy has always been a steady producer of top footballing talent.

Fermín López is the latest player to gain recognition and introduce himself on the big stage. He scored and assisted against Real Madrid on Saturday, in one of the biggest and most viewed fixtures worldwide. López shone, and it won’t have been a surprise to those close to him. Pedri was asked earlier in the week about which youngster had impressed him the most in training, and he quickly answered that López had caught his eye. Barcelona have high expectations for the season ahead, but the club prides itself on giving youth a chance, so López will hope to make his mark.
