Ferland Mendy-Real Madrid latest: Contract rejected, Alphonso Davies impact & Saudi interest

An update on the future of Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy has come to the fore on Wednesday afternoon.

The name of left-back Mendy has of course long found itself front and centre in the headlines in Spain’s capital.

As much comes amid mounting speculation surrounding a potential summer exit for the France international.

Mendy, for his part, remains highly thought of by head coach Carlo Ancelotti, who continues to view the former Lyon standout as his first-choice left-back.

In fact, in the not so recent past, Real’s headmaster went as far as to label the 28-year-old world football’s best defender in his role.

And yet, rumours surrounding the likely arrival of a player who would instantly replace Mendy as the starting left-full in Madrid have continued to spread like wildfire.

Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies is widely understood to be in the sights of the Santiago Bernabéu brass with a view to the summer.

Some outlets, in fact, have gone as far as to report that an agreement on the personal terms of a contract between the parties has already been reached.

So, what would as much mean for Mendy?

As per a report from Marca, in the case of Davies making his way to Spain’s capital, the Frenchman’s departure will become a real possibility.

Fran García is viewed as an altogether more realistic backup to the former, with Mendy unlikely to be content with a spot on the bench.

Not only that, but the stopper is understood to have been left unsatisfied by more than one contract renewal offer on the part of the Real Madrid hierarchy, rebuffing their attempts to tie him down for the long-term.

Amid mounting interest in his services by way of the Saudi Pro League, it should in turn come as a surprise to absolutely none if Mendy, come the close of the upcoming summer transfer market, no longer finds himself a member of Carlo Ancelotti’s star-studded squad.
