Fede Valverde becomes Real Madrid’s top scorer

Everyone is telling Fede Valverde to shoot more and it’s paying off. The Uruguayan midfielder has already scored seven goals and provided two assists in 15 games in all competitions this season; numbers a striker would be proud of.

Valverde is Madrid’s top scorer for the season in La Liga, with six goals. According to MisterChip, the 24-year-old only scored six times in his first 175 games in Spanish football but has already scored seven times in his last 14 outings from midfield.

After the win over Elche in midweek, the Uruguay international said Carlo Ancelotti is asking him for more than 10 goals this season and he is well on his way to hitting that number.

Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois discussed the 3-1 victory at home to Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday night and the Belgian was full of praise for Valverde.

“It’s nice to be back on the pitch. It’s a good victory against a strong team, who should be in the top four. We told [Fede] Valverde that he has to shoot more. His quality is enormous,” he told LaLigaTV.

Valverde has also scored the most goals from shots from outside the box in Europe’s top five leagues this season (4).

Los Blancos are unbeaten in their last 20 matches and have taken 31 points from a possible 33 in La Liga this season.
