Everton confirm James Rodríguez joined from Real Madrid on free transfer

According to Goal, Everton Sporting Director, Marcel Brands, has revealed that James Rodríguez arrived as a free agent, with no transfer fee for Real Madrid involved in the deal.

The Colombian playmaker left Real Madrid for free to join up with Carlo Ancelotti in the Premier League. Speaking in a press conference, Brands assured that the free transfer was in the middle of one of the “most difficult and strange markets of all time.”

“It was one of the most difficult and strange transfer periods of all time. The pandemic was clearly involved in this window. We signed six new players. Three on permanent transfers – Allan, Doucoure and Ben Godfrey. One on a free – James Rodriguez.
