Espanyol want La Liga relegation to be scrapped due to league disruption

Recently relegated Espanyol have asked for relegation from the top two decisions in Spain to be scrapped due to the disruption across the 2019/20 season as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

In a long statement released on Monday, the Catalan club called for “the elimination of relegation across La Liga’s two competitions, La Liga and Segunda, in the same way that has happened in (those competitions) organised by the RFEF.”

Relegated to the Segunda Division for the first time in 26 years, Espanyol feel that “the situation was inevitably unfair in a sporting sense” and that the end of the season “was not played in the same conditions as before the suspension.”
