Espanyol relegated after 26 years in Spain’s top-flight

Espanyol have been relegated from Spain’s top-flight after a 1-0 defeat to cross-city rivals Barcelona at Camp Nou.

The Catalan club, who finished seventh in Primera last season, are the first team to be relegated to Segunda Division. Five wins in 35 games despite spending €40m in the January transfer window and four different managers in the 2019-20 campaign wasn’t enough to save their season.

Barcelona climb to within a point of Real Madrid after the derby win.
