Espanyol eye Mario Hermoso return

Espanyol are keen to make a move for Atlético Madrid’s Mario Hermoso, report Mundo Deportivo.

As it was communicated earlier today, Los Colchoneros’ failure to qualify for European football in the spring means that they will be missing out on potential revenue of up to €60m, meaning that they will use the January transfer window to offload unwanted players and thus help make up their financial deficit.

It appears as though Hermoso is one of the players that Atlético Madrid are willing to part ways with and Espanyol have identified him as one of the players that they would be interested in signing in the new year.

The Estadi Cornellà-El Prat will not be unfamiliar territory for the 27-year-old, having played for the Barcelona-based outfit between 2017 and 2019.

Espanyol coach Diego Martínez believes that Hermoso could play a key role in helping the club avoid relegation. Nonetheless, compromises have to be made by both parties if the transfer is to go ahead as Espanyol are very unlikely to be in the financial position to pay Hermoso’s current salary at the Estadio Metropolitano.
