Ernesto Valverde responds to Valencia job offer

La Liga outfit Valencia have early this week been dealt a setback in their search for a new head coach. This comes amid the understanding that Ernesto Valverde has rejected the chance to take up the reins at Mestalla.

This past weekend of course proved to be one of major change behind the scenes at Valencia.

After a five-game winless streak to open the season left Los Che sitting bottom of the La Liga table, Peter Lim and co. took action.

All of manager Carlos Corberán and his staff, and CEO Ron Gourlay and his team of directors, were fired with immediate effect on Sunday afternoon.

From here, Braulio Vázquez was quickly secured from La Liga rivals Osasuna, to take over sporting director duties at Mestalla. Vázquez’s first task was to source a replacement for the outbound Corberán, with the aforementioned Ernesto Valverde having been identified as something of a priority target.

As alluded to above, however, on Monday, the Spanish tactician has made the call to knock Valencia’s advances back. As per a report from COPE:

‘Valverde says NO. According to COPE, Ernesto Valverde has declined the option to come to Valencia. He has rejected important projects in Europe because he wants to continue without coaching for the moment.’
