Ernesto Valverde reiterates commitment to Athletic club amid Bayern links

Athletic Club head coach Ernesto Valverde today moved to play down speculation linking him with a move away from the club.

The subject of Valverde’s future in the Basque Country has of course long taken its place front and centre in the Spanish media headlines.

As much comes ahead of the expiration of his Athletic contract this coming summer.

Recent days have seen it speculated that the former Barcelona headmaster has made his way into the sights of the likes of European giants Bayern Munich, and Porto.

With little progress understood to have been made in negotiations between club and manager towards a renewal at San Mamés, those of an Athletic persuasion have in turn been left to sweat over the continuity of their side’s beloved boss.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of his side’s La Liga meeting with Osasuna on Saturday night, however, Valverde moved to quell such fears.

This comes with the 60-year-old, when drawn on the possibility of taking on a new venture this summer, having assured that:

“My priority continues to be Athletic,” as cited by Mundo Deportivo.
