El Gran Derbi PLAYER RATINGS | Real Betis 1-1 Sevilla

El Gran Derbi ensures chaos, and chaotic it was. Sevilla had a man sent off, before Real Betis themselves went down to nine men and lost control of the game. Jesús Navas’ own goal gave Betis the lead, and it required a special strike from Nemanja Gudelj for Sevilla to draw level.

REAL BETIS

Claudio Bravo: 5

Youssouf Sabaly: 4 – Not great in the linkup, and was lucky that Sevilla did not score after a very poor back pass.

Germán Pezzella: 5 – Some cheap giveaways of possession, but put in a resistant shift with Betis down to nine men.

Edgar González: 9 – Colossal. Bailed out Sabaly and Pezzella after their errors, and put in a tremendous defensive performance. Seven clearances (one off the line), two interceptions, two successful tackles and a block.

Álex Moreno: 6 – His clever movement saw Montiel’s challenge catch him late, leading to Sevilla’s early red card.

Guido Rodríguez: 6

William Carvalho: 6 – Played a big part in orchestrating the goal with an accurate long ball to Canales in the box.

Sergio Canales: 7 – At the heart of every good Betis movement. Left helplessly isolated up front as he saw Fekir and Borja sent off.

Nabil Fekir: 4 – His shot deflected off Navas, leading to the goal. Sent off, perhaps harshly, in the first half for an outstretched arm on Papu Gómez.

Aitor Ruibal: 5

Borja Iglesias: 3 – Was proactive in his linkup, but left Betis vulnerable as he was sent off for a poor challenge.

SUBSTITUTES:

Luiz Henrique: 5

Andrés Guardado: 5

Willian Jose: n/a

SEVILLA

Yassine Bounou: 7 – Made some crucial saves, including a huge 1v1 against Borja Iglesias in the first half.

Gonzalo Montiel: 2 – Sent off for a terribly late sliding challenge on Álex Moreno.

Nemanja Gudelj: 7 – Scored a screamer in the second half to equalise, and nearly scored the winner on two occasions with some spectacular attempts.

Karim Rekik: 5

Marcos Acuña: 5 – Booked harshly during the melee after Montiel was sent off. Hit-and-miss with his crosses, and lasted only 45 minutes.

Joan Jordán: 6 – Grew in prominence with Sevilla a man up and Betis desperately hanging on.

Ivan Rakitić: 5

Óliver Torres: 5

Papu Gómez: 6 – Fekir’s outstretched arm on him saw the Frenchman sent off. Proactive in the Sevilla buildup as they hunted an equaliser.

Erik Lamela: 5 – Got into good positions a couple of times, but failed to make a difference.

Rafa Mir: 4 – Failed to take advantage of Sabaly’s poor back pass, as his unconvincing shot was cleared off the line. Sacrificed for defensive reinforcements after Montiel’s red.

SUBSTITUTES:

Jesús Navas: 4 – Got the unfortunate touch which led to the Betis goal.

Alex Telles: 6

Youssef En-Nesyri: 5

Kasper Dolberg: 5
