Dressing room favourite Montserrat Vinardell sacked after 23 years with Barcelona

The powers that be at Barcelona have today come to the surprise decision to part ways with a long-time popular figure amongst the club’s playing squad.

The individual in question? Montserrat Vinardell.

Vinardell, for her part, had fulfilled the role of ‘Football Manager Assistant’ in Catalunya’s capital for the last 23 years.

The position, as per Diario Sport, saw her charged with ‘managing all the day-to-day issues and logistics of the players’. As much included stepping in upon problems arising, as well as taking care of ‘specific situations’ for the Blaugrana’s first-team squad, their families, and representatives.

A ‘very loved’ person by all in Xavi’s squad, Vinardell was considered the ‘right hand’ of a whole host of high-profile stars.

Her dismissal, as a result, has come as something of a shock behind the scenes in Barcelona.

Sport point towards the decision as having come with a view to an individual ‘closer to the inner circle’ of Joan Laporta and his team being installed in Vinardell’s place.

This comes with the Blaugrana president keen to oversee ‘all the internal affairs of the players’.
