La Liga outfit Real Sociedad have on Thursday agreed a deal to part ways with a key member of the club’s midfield ranks.
The player in question? Mikel Merino.
The subject of Spanish international Merino’s future has of course long proven a headline talking point in not only the Spanish media, but across all of Europe.
This comes after widespread confirmation was forthcoming that, amid their ongoing search for reinforcements in the middle of the park, Premier League giants Arsenal had identified the 28-year-old as the ideal profile.
Ahead of the expiration of his contract at Anoeta next summer, negotiations, in turn, were swiftly kicked into gear with Real Sociedad.
And, after drawn on discussions regarding fees, bonuses and payment structure, a definitive agreement, on Thursday, has at last been reached.
As per a report from transfer insider Fabrizio Romano:
‘Mikel Merino to Arsenal, here we go! Verbal agreement in place for Spanish midfielder to join Gunners. €32m plus €5m add-ons with favorable payment terms. Contract until 2028.’
