Dimitri Payet: Atlético star ‘has always wanted to play for Marseille’

Former France international Dimitri Payet has this week confirmed that Atlético Madrid star Antoine Griezmann has long dreamed of lining out in the colours of Olympique Marseille.

Payet and Griezmann long shared the pitch together, whilst lining out for the French national team.

The former, meanwhile, spent six successful seasons lining out for the aforementioned Marseille, across which he racked up almost 200 Ligue 1 appearances.

Speaking during an interview with France Bleu Provence on Wednesday, Payet was in turn drawn on his time spent plying his trade in the colours of OM.

And, as part of his response, the 37-year-old went on to reveal that of the many players to have informed him of their desire to call the Stade Vélodrome home, the first who springs to mind is the aforementioned Antoine Griezmann:

“A lot of people can’t come to Marseille, because it’s Marseille and they’re in clubs that are, let’s say, more upscale, but they would dream of playing in this Vélodrome. And they loved it.

“The first person who comes to mind is Grizou. He always said he wanted to play for OM, that the Vélodrome was for him… And every time we went there with the national team, he was the happiest.”
