Diego Simeone: “There are moments when you have to win.”

Last night Atlético Madrid defeated Girona 2-1 in the eighth round of La Liga.

In his post-match press conference that appeared on Marca, Diego Simeone discussed the importance of this victory:

“There are moments when you have to win and today we had to win. Until the 60th or the 70th minute we played the way we wanted to. The end was not expected. I see that the guys want to do well, they give everything and do their best in both competitions. We need the people and all the players.”

He was very impressed with Ángel Correa’s performance:

“Sometimes he doesn’t play as a starter but he has always played. Getting angry for not playing and showing it on the pitch gives him opportunities to play in a team that is about passion.”

The Argentine coach is also thankful for the support shown by the Atlético Madrid supporters:

“The support of the fans is impressive and they pushed us when we needed it most in those final 20 minutes to close a game that was on track. We need them close to us and it is important that they are there again on Wednesday. We will make an effort to do better.”
