Diego Simeone talks win over Celta Vigo, Witsel and Oblak

Diego Simeone spoke to DAZN after Atlético Madrid’s 4-1 victory over Celta Vigo on Saturday.

On the win over Celta

“After losing to Villarreal, we needed to start picking up points in the league. The third goal was a great goal, a great collective move from the defence to attack.

“The idea to make them all feel comfortable in the squad. I made a lot of changes after the Champions League and we needed to play players who were fresh. The second half was more complete. We played well in the second half.”

On Axel Witsel

“He has a vision of the game like few others. There was no Giménez, Savic and we understood that playing him as a sweeper could give us more calmness on the ball and for the goal kicks he was moved into midfield.”

On Oblak

“Oblak decided that he wasn’t 100%. Jan didn’t feel up to it today. Let’s hope he improves for Tuesday and I’m very happy for Ivo. He has energy, he transmits positivity, you can see he is a presence in the dressing room and when you work hard, one day it will be your turn and he has worked hard.”
