Diego Simeone sends message to Barcelona regarding Antoine Griezmann’s buy-out clause

As communicated by Sport, Diego Simeone revealed his thoughts regarding Antoine Griezmann’s situation at Atlético Madrid in the pre-match press conference prior to the club’s fixture against Real Sociedad tomorrow.

According to the agreement between Los Colchoneros and Barcelona, Atlético Madrid would have to pay €40m to purchase Griezmann permanently if he plays at least 45 minutes in half of the games he is available for.

However, Atlético are not keen on paying the mandatory buy-out clause and are trying to negotiate an alternative deal with the Blaugrana.

The Frenchman only played 30 minutes in each of the club’s first three La Liga matches in order to avoid triggering his buy-out clause. Simeone revealed his thoughts regarding the situation and his commitment to comply with the board’s decision to limit the number of minutes the 31-year-old is given on the pitch.

“You’ve known me for 10 years. I’m a club man and I always will be. It is better to play 30 minutes well than 60 minutes badly,” Simeone said.
