Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone was on Friday drawn on the recent media speculation, linking him with a potential departure from the club.
The name of tactician Simeone has taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Spain’s capital over recent weeks.
This comes amid mounting suggestions that, in the face of another hit-and-miss opening to the new campaign, the Atlético brass could soon opt to move in a new direction.
Speaking in his latest pre-match press conference this afternoon, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his future was put to Simeone himself once more.
Asked ‘what can you say?’ regarding the reports of a potential sacking coming his way, the Argentine was blunt in his reply:
“Alavés“ – his side’s upcoming opponents.
The questions did not stop there, though, as a further journalist pressed:
“Do you understand that people say the club is looking for alternatives in case you leave Atlético de Madrid? Does it bother you, or do you understand why they might do it?”
Simeone, again, though, was to the point in concluding:
“That’s not a question for me.”
