Diego Simeone provides updates on Atlético pair Morata & Giménez before Sevilla

Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has this evening provided updates on the wellbeing of two key members of his squad.

Atléti, of course, are primed to return to action in 24 hours’ time.

Fresh off a disheartening defeat at the hands of Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey semi-finals in midweek, the Rojiblancos will make the trip to Andalusia, eyeing a bounce-back result up against Sevilla.

And the hopes of the capital giants of securing precisely that have on Saturday been afforded a boost.

This comes by way of confirmation that star frontman Álvaro Morata will be available to feature from the off at The Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Diego Simeone was drawn on Morata’s fitness, after the Spanish international was a notable absentee from training on Friday.

Atlético’s boss, though, assured that as much came simply to afford the former Juventus man some needed rest:

“Álvaro is fine, he trained normally today, yesterday he rested well so tomorrow let’s hope he can be fresh.”

From here, an insight into the recovery of stopper José María Giménez was also forthcoming.

Giménez, for his part, has been sidelined since late last month, owing to a hamstring injury.

In a further boost to all associated with Atléti, though, Simeone confirmed that the Uruguayan is primed for an imminent return to group training:

“Giménez will start training with the group next week. Let’s hope he gets back soon because he is very important for our defence.”
