Diego Simeone provides Álvaro Morata injury update after Atlético’s defeat to Sevilla

Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has provided an update on the wellbeing of star attacker Álvaro Morata.

This comes after the Spanish international set alarm bells ringing across the Atléti fanbase a short time ago.

Simeone guided his side back into action this evening, making the trip to Andalusia for a La Liga meeting with Sevilla.

The visitors headed into proceedings eyeing a bounce-back result, after slipping to a hugely disappointing defeat at the hands of Athletic Club in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey in midweek.

When all was said and done at The Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, however, Atlético were ultimately condemned to a 2nd defeat on the spin.

This came owing to a solitary strike on the part of Sevilla frontman Isaac Romero.

And yet, as alluded to above, the eventual result did not come as the only source of concern for Atlético on Sunday night.

In addition, the Rojiblancos were dealt a potentially serious blow on the personnel front.

After limping out of proceedings at half-time with a knee issue, the aforementioned Álvaro Morata failed to emerge for the 2nd half.

Upon word coming to the fore that the former Juventus man had been spotted in tears on the bench, panic, in turn, quickly set in in Madrid.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Diego Simeone was therefore inevitably asked for an update on Morata’s situation.

And the Argentine went on to reveal his hope that the injury will in the end prove to be ‘nothing important’:

“Let’s hope it’s as little as possible. Tomorrow they will report more accurately. We hope it’s nothing important.”
