Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone described his side’s 3-0 defeat to Valencia on Saturday as “the weakest performance in my time at the club”.
A tough day for Atlético
“Valencia were far superior. We couldn’t play the game we wanted to play,” Simeone said post-match in words transcribed by Diario AS.
“It’s possibly the weakest performance in my time at the club. Valencia knew how to attack us on the counter-attack well and hurt us. They played a great game.”
Are you angry?
“I’m not angry at all, I’m calm. I know the players I have, the group I have in the dressing room. But you have to accept when the team has a bad game… accepting it is the best way to grow.”
Valencia beat Atlético well at Mestalla
What was the worst thing about today?
“The worst thing about today was that the opponent was better than us and I don’t have much more to say.”
“We knew that they were going to run into space. They look to stretch their opponents. They won more duels and they were more intense.”
The defeat to Los Che leaves Atlético in seventh place in the La Liga table at the time of writing.
