Diego Simeone experiments with new-look attacking pair ahead of Atlético’s clash with Almería

Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone today hinted that he is ready to utilise a new-look frontline in the club’s upcoming meeting with Almería.

Atléti, of course, are primed to mark their return to action on Saturday evening.

Fresh off defeat in the first leg of the club’s Champions League Last-16 tie with Inter Milan in midweek, the capital giants will turn their attentions back towards matters in La Liga, eyeing a return to winning ways at the expense of bottom-of-the-table Almería.

Their efforts towards as much, though, will come sans the services of a host of the club’s key performers.

Ruled out of proceedings at the Power Horse Stadium are all of José Giménez, Thomas Lemar, César Azpilicueta and, crucially, Antoine Griezmann.

The quartet of Axel Witsel, Mario Hermoso, Marcos Llorente and Álvaro Morata, meanwhile, are expected to be afforded a much-needed rest.

And, as alluded to above, as much has opened the door for a new attacking tandem to come to the fore in Atlético’s squad.

As revealed by Mundo Deportivo, Diego Simeone tested Ángel Correa and Memphis Depay as his front two in training on Thursday.

With Griezmann sidelined, and Morata set to be benched following a fast-tracked return from injury, backup pair Correa and Depay will therefore be afforded a rare opportunity to lead the line from the off at the Power Horse Stadium.
