Diego Simeone defends under-fire Man United ahead of Champions League clash

Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has on Monday moved to defend upcoming opponents Manchester United. This comes as the Argentine prepares to guide his side into battle against the Red Devils.

One of the headline matchups of the upcoming round of Champions League fixtures will be contested at the Metropolitano on Tuesday, when the aforementioned Atlético play host to Man United.

The former head into the clash having enjoyed a timely return to form over recent weeks, fresh off a quartet of successive La Liga victories.

Michael Carrick’s Red Devils, on the other hand, have continued to struggle, without a win in any of their last four across all competitions.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference this evening, Diego Simeone was in turn drawn on the challenge awaiting his side on Tuesday.

And the Argentine made use of the opportunity to insist:

“This is Manchester United. Beyond the results and draws they’ve got, they’re a very strong side. We’re up against a very good team, pressing in opposition, good off-the-ball movement, good at taking time away from you when pressing.”
