Details: Barcelona’s remarkable 3-year wage bill reduction

An insight into the impressive efforts of the brass at Barcelona to reduce the club’s bloated wage will over recent seasons has this week been provided.

The info comes courtesy of none other than La Liga president Javier Tebas, who opened up on the subject whilst discussing Barcelona’s financial situation on a wider scale.

The Spanish patron’s initial assessment of the latest developments in Catalunya’s capital prove to be of an altogether positive nature, with Tebas (as cited by Cadena SER) having explained:

“This year, of all the last few years, is the easiest for them. Barcelona knows what they have to do to bring in players, they know financial fair play, they have a good command of it.”

Drawn further on what exactly the Camp Nou hierarchy have done to turn their financial situation around, Tebas then pointed towards Barcelona’s wage bill as a perfect example.

Incredibly, the Spanish patron suggests that the Blaugrana have reduced their player payroll by over €200 million, in the space of the last three years alone:

“There is one essential fact. Three years ago Barcelona had a first team wage bill of 650 million euros, today it is 450 million, 200+ million less, something that is more manageable for a team like Barcelona.

“It is at the level of Real Madrid in terms of wage bill, but Madrid has done its homework well for many years and that is why it can sign players,” Tebas concluded.
