Deco & Joan Laporta in disagreement over Barcelona’s next manager

Two key figures in the boardroom at La Liga giants Barcelona are in disagreement when it comes to the club’s next manager.

That’s according to Javi Miguel of Diario AS, who has this evening provided a fresh insight into developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

It is of course common knowledge across world football that Barcelona are on the lookout for a new head coach, with a view to next season.

This comes after Xavi, late last month, announced his intention to step down from his post upon the conclusion of the campaign.

A whole host of tacticians, in turn, have been tipped to replace the Spaniard.

Media speculation has pointed towards the likes of Jürgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel, Mikel Arteta and Imanol as potential installments on the Camp Nou touchline.

If the latest word doing the rounds on Tuesday evening is anything to go by, however, then in fact, Barca’s shortlist looks considerably shorter.

This comes amid claims that two names have emerged from the pack, as the clear frontrunners for the job.

The issue, however, is that Blaugrana president Joan Laporta, and sporting director Deco, are in disagreement over the correct profile.

As per AS:

‘On the one hand, Laporta is in favor of bringing in a veteran coach, with extensive experience and proven character, who is capable of uniting people’s enthusiasm, while Deco prefers a coach with a lower profile, who knows how to adapt to the demands of the script and who wants to take a step forward in his career.’

As much sees Laporta pushing for ex-Bayern Munich headmaster Hansi Flick, and Deco eyeing Porto boss Sérgio Conceição.

It now remains to be seen whose will bends first.
