Deco holds meeting for Barcelona midfield target, with another to follow

A major update on the ongoing efforts of the powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona to add to the club’s midfield options with a view to next season has today been forthcoming online.

The info comes courtesy of Jijantes, and confirms that Barca sporting director Deco on Monday held a meeting with the representatives of Xavi’s priority target to fill the ‘pivot’ role in his XI.

The player in question? Martín Zubimendi.

Real Sociedad star Zubimendi has long been tipped to take his talents to Catalunya’s capital, having been identified as the perfect long-term profile to replace Sergio Busquets.

With Barcelona having not had the required funds at their disposal last summer, a deal was not sought out, but the situation, evidently, has since changed.

As per Jijantes, Deco held a 90-minute sit-down with Zubimendi’s entourage, to talk through the prospect of joining forces this summer.

With Real Sociedad having slapped a 60 million price-tag on their midfield standout, sales will first be required on Barca’s part, before returning to the table with their counterparts at Anoeta.

And Deco, evidently, is not done there…

Keen to keep his target list as open as possible for the summer, the Blaugrana chief is also expected to fly out to Germany imminently.

As much comes with a view to holding talks with the agent of Bayern Munich standout Joshua Kimmich – another Xavi favourite.
