Dani Alves eligible to play for Barcelona from January

Barcelona have reached an agreement to sign former defender Dani Alves.

From next week, the Brazilian will train with his new team-mates but cannot play for the Camp Nou outfit until January.

There is a place open in the squad for the defender following the departure of midfielder Miralem Pjanic for Besiktas. Alves rescinded his contract with São Paulo in September when the Brazilian and Spanish transfer windows had already closed and despite the 38-year-old being a free agent, he therefore cannot be registered with La Liga until the next window opens in January.

Alves has signed on an initial one-year deal with the option of extending it until June 2023.
